Timber BusinessWilkinson Logging

Wilkinson Logging started three generations back. Elbert (DE) Wilkinson initially started the family logging business with teams of work-mules and traveled the country logging, moving his family from place to place, before finally setting in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He started one of the first neighborhoods in Cape Girardeau. He logged and built houses with his sons and other family members, until retiring.

After the Korean War, his son, Gene Wilkinson took over the family business. Eventually Gene was able to invest in modern-day equipment.  He resided in the same area as his family, married and had children of his own. When Gene was unable to continue logging, his son,  Larry Wilkinson took over and is still to this day logging the family business.

Larry grew up working in the log woods with his grandfather and father, so he is very familiar with the timber business. Hopefully when the time comes that Larry retires, one of the children from the forth generation will  keep the family business going. There are two that have been learning the logging and timber business since they were old enough to be in woods.
